This trial is part of the extension of the Blida tribunal 1st ordinary session 2013 (from 21 January to 28 March), decided by the General Attorney Boumediene Bacha, after the approval of the Supreme Court on 19 January 2011, of appeals lodged by defense and the Public Prosecutor.

Some 75 accused and 300 witnesses, including Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci (then Finance Minister), Minister of Finance Karim Djoudi, Housing and Urbanism Minister Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and General Secretary of UGTA Abdelmadjid Sidi Said, were summoned by the tribunal, to be chaired by Judge Antar Menouar, for a second trial of Khalifa case, legal source said.

About fifty persons representing the civil party in this case are also concerned by this appeal.

The first trial, which took place in March 2007, in the very same tribunal ended with the delivery of sentences ranging from one year to 20 years in prison, and the release of fifty persons among the 94 defendants tried before the court. Ten other defendants were convicted in absentia.

The charges against them were "forming a criminal organization", "robbery", "fraud”, “breach of trust" and "falsification of official documents."
