Sidi Bouzid, the eternal spark

Lundi 17 Décembre 2012

It is like the flapping of a butterfly that triggers a storm on the other side of the planet, the crazy gesture of Mohamed Bouazizi, the fruit vendor who set himself on fire, has initiated a revolutionary process that has travelled far beyond the borders of Tunisia.
Sidi Bouzid, the eternal spark
The original instant upheavals that agitated our country and much of the Arab states is celebrated on Friday, December 17, 2010 from 11am to 11am 30 am. Who would have thought in that moment that the suicide attempt of young Mohamed  would lead us into so many changes? The hasty departure of Ben Ali and his family? The organisation of elections propelling former prisoners and political opponents into power? The drafting of a new Constitution? The emergence of a civil society that watches over this phase  of disorder and tormented democratic transition?

More than anywhere else in Sidi Bouzid people believe that the revolution is a process. Although mixed with a hint of disappointment, the breath of 17 December protest is still circulating in the city of Bouazizi, none of the various transitional governments have succeeded in improving the living conditions. Without equitable and sustainable development, Sidi Bouzid  will continue to bubble. Like a volcano in eternal eruption !
