Sheikhs of Sahrawi tribes in southern provinces condemn violence by polisario and Algeria against Sahrawi protestors
Laayoune - The Sheikhs of Sahrawi tribes in the southern provinces condemned the violence committed by the polisario and Algeria against Sahrawi protestors who staged, on January 23-24, a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the high commissioner for refugees in the camps of Tindouf (south-western Algeria) to protest against human rights abuses in these camps.

During a meeting, held on Saturday evening in Laayoune, the sheikhs have strongly condemned the barbaric intervention of the militia of the Polisario and the Algerian army against participants in the peaceful sit-in. They called on international organizations to visit the Tindouf camps to investigate the issue and get informed about the deteriorating situation of the Moroccans held against their will in these camps. We held this meeting today to denounce the abuses perpetrated against Moroccans held captive in the Tindouf camps and especially against young demonstrators who observed a sit-in to protest against their deteriorating living conditions, Abdellah Salhi, one of the sheikhs of the Sahrawi tribes, told MAP.
