Security and socio-economic aspects included in Morocco's renovated migration policy (interior minister)

Rabat - The new immigration policy in Morocco, which has become a transit and host country, has required the adoption of a new humane approache that takes into account security and socio-economic aspects as well as Morocco's international commitments, said Morocco's interior delegate minister Charki Draiss.

Morocco has also embarked on regularizing the situation of asylum seekers, of which over 500 were delivered refugee cards, said the official during an information and training day on the exceptional operation launched by Morocco to regularize the situation of undocumented immigrants in Morocco.
 
In parallel, he went on, authorities have launched legal and institutional reforms to draft new laws related to immigration and asylum, arguing that this exceptional operation will be a test for all stakeholders of this new migration vision and will be closely followed by Morocco's foreign partners and non-governmental human rights-advocacy organizations. 
 
Was also present at this conference minister in charge of Moroccans living abroad, Anas Birou, who called all those who will be in charge of enforcing the new law to promote the humane dimension in their work and build on Morocco's attachment to the universal values and international conventions in human rights.
 
Birou insisted that the ultimate goal is to secure optimal enforcement of the new migration policy that was acclaimed worldwide. 
 
The interior ministry presented during this information and training day a presentation on the methodology to be adopted, the categories of immigrants eligible to receive stay documents in Morocco and the required administrative procedure.
