Sahara: EU reiterates support for negotiated political solution under UN aegis

Brussels - The EU reiterated, on Friday, its support for a negotiated political solution to the Sahara issue.

Answering a question by a Euro-deputy, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that Brussels supports UN efforts to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution to the Sahara issue.

She added that the EU, which has concerns over the persistence of this long-running conflict and its ramifications on the region's security and regional integration, encourages the parties to search for a negotiated solution to the conflict and lauds UN efforts.

The Sahara conflict is a conflict imposed on Morocco by Algeria which funds and hosts on its territory in Tindouf the polisario separatist movement.
