Jakarta - Guatemala's former ambassador to Morocco Jacobo Cuyún Salguero was awarded Thursday in Jakarta the Alawite Wissam of the Order of Grand Officer, which was granted to him by HM King Mohammed VI. The Royal distinction was handed to Cuyún Salguero by Morocco's ambassador to Colombia, Ouadia Benabdellah, during a ceremony held at the Kingdom's embassy in the presence of several senior officials of the Indonesian ministry of foreign affairs and diplomats from several Latin-American countries.

Speaking on this occasion, Benabdellah said Jacobo Cuyún Salguero "was mainly the Ambassador that made Guatemala even more known to Moroccans", adding that he also made “Morocco more known to his co-citizens and high officials of his country." "Ambassador Maynor Jacobo Cuyún Salguero really contributed to fostering bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and República de Guatemala," he pointed out.

For his part, Jacobo Cuyún Salguero expressed, in a statement to MAP, his deepest thanks to HM King Mohammed VI for granting him this important distinction at the end of his mission in Morocco. He also commended Morocco's achievements in several areas and reaffirmed his support to the Kingdom's national cause.

Morocco and Guatemala will celebrate in 2021 the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations through several sectoral meetings with a view to further develop bilateral cooperation in many areas.
