Resumption of Moroccan-Israeli Ties, Historic Event Promoting Morocco as Haven of Peace (Great Rabbi of Panama)

Lundi 28 Décembre 2020

Panama City - The resumption of the Moroccan-Israeli ties is a historic event that encourages dialogue, coexistence and mutual understanding, stated on Sunday David Perets, Great Rabbi of Panama's Jewish community.
He emphasized in a statement to MAP that resuming official contacts between Morocco and Israel is great news he has been awaiting for a very long time. It is also a historic event that honors Morocco, a country that has always called for coexistence, peace and stability all around the world, he added.

In this context, the Great Rabbi of Panama, the son of a Moroccan father, underlined the Moroccan kings' solicitude for Moroccan Jews around the globe, noting that Morocco has always been "a haven of peace and coexistence between all religions."

Morocco shows the world, through this decision that helps reunite families and consolidate the historical ties between the Moroccan Jews and their homeland, that coexistence is now possible and that peace is not a pipe dream, but rather a concrete reality, he said.

This rapprochement will allow Morocco to reinforce its leading role in the peace process of the Middle East, he added.

He also stated that ever since HM King Mohammed VI ascended the Throne of His Glorious Ancestors, as Chairman of Al-Quds Committee, the sovereign never ceased making tireless efforts to bring viewpoints closer and fostering peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

The Rabbi expressed his confidence that the resumption of Moroccan-Israeli ties is a colossal step towards laying the bases for fair and sustainable peace in the region.

Perets welcomed the US decision to recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara.

"We salute and support the American administration's decision that brings justice to Morocco and reinforces its stance in defending its fair cause," he concluded.
