Report: Strong intolerance vis-à-vis Muslims in France

Indeed, a strong intolerance vis-à-vis Muslims in France was revealed Thursday by the French Commission Consultative Human Rights (CNCDH), in its annual report 2012, published exclusively by the newspaper La Croix on perception of the French immigration issues.

According to this document on "Racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia in France" whose findings were published on Thursday 21 March, CNCDH considers the situation "worrying", ie that all "indicators of racism" are increasing in France, including the anti-Muslim sentiment.

According to the National Consultative Commission on Human Rights, "For the third consecutive year [in France], indicators shows rising racism and intolerance increases," a "phenomenon [that] is anchored in time, and this trend is particularly worrying. " Examples with an "increase still more marked distrust of Muslims [and] a growing rejection of foreigners perceived increasingly as pests or as a threat."

These findings are supported by a particular survey in 2012 by the CSA, which showed that 55% of French Muslims form a separate group in society. The anti-foreigners,  reached 69% of respondents, well over half of the French, saying that "there are too many immigrants in France today." Compared to 2011, this feeling of rejection of foreigners jumped 10 points. A trivialisation of the xenophobic sentiment that CNCDH  called alarming and dangerous.

CNCDH emphasises "a dangerous trivialisation by racist.s" If the Internet contributes to this trivialisation, "it also feeds the instrumentalisation in political discourse," the commission said.
