Renewable Energy: Morocco's Leadership Hailed by IRENA General Assembly Participants

Several participants at the 6th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), held here on Jan. 16-17, hailed Morocco's leadership in renewable energy.

During the various plenary and parallel ministerial forums, the participants stressed that Morocco is a model and a regional leader in this field, since it became aware for years of the need to operate transition to renewable energies and strengthen their contribution in the energy mix, so as to allow it to phase out its dependence on fossil fuels and stay immune to its fluctuations on world markets.

They also hailed the experience accumulated by Morocco in the development of solar, wind and hydropower projects, which allowed it to reduce production cost of electricity from renewable resources.

Morocco takes part in the 6th General Assembly of IRENA, held on January 16-17 in Abu Dhabi, for the first time as a member, after having participated since 2009 as an observer member of this agency.

This 6th IRENA General Assembly brings together officials from 150 countries and representatives of 140 regional organizations.
