Qatar makes its assistance to Morocco conditional on its purchase of Maroc Telecom shares.

Four Gulf countries had pledged US$5 billion in assistance in Morocco, following the royal tour to the Middle East last October.
Qatar makes its assistance to Morocco  conditional on its purchase of Maroc Telecom shares.
A senior Moroccan who refused to identify himself said, according to the news channel Al Arabiya, that  a first tranche of financial assistance from the Gulf to Morocco had arrived and other transfers are planned soon.
 
During the last Arab economic and social summit held in Riyadh, Moroccan officials have completed all the necessary formalities for the transfer of the promised aid.
 
It was according to several sources be a sum of $ 2.5 billion paid by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates for projects covering areas such as employment, social welfare, the agriculture, education, housing and various subsidies.
 
 Local press reports  noted the lack of Qatar on this list, despite its commitment to contribute to this grant, sources indicate that the small emirate blocked its assistance to Morocco,requiring  the facilitation by the Kingdom of the sale to Qatar of a majority share in the capital of Maroc Telecom, offered for sale by the French group Vivendi.
 
Those vying for the shares of  the operators Maroc Telecom shares include Qtel  from Qatar, the UAE and the South Korean Etissalat KT.
 
Vivendi  US $ 7 billion for the sale of itsshares in Maroc Telecom.
