"I am confident that young people, trained by millions, in Algerian school, open to the world of modern knowledge and communication technologies, aware of the challenges and dangers of globalization, will stand up against the enemies of the country," President Bouteflika said in a speech in commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the May 8, 1945 massacres.

The Head of State said that "the youth who will face instigators of Fitna and division and ambitions of foreign interference, show once again that it is up to its responsibility and will raise the challenge by expressing its voice and that of the nation" and make the May 10 legislative elections "another milestone in the process of building and renewal and national election Day a holiday in Algeria.

President Bouteflika also recalled that "freedom and national sovereignty were recovered at enormous sacrifices and an equally heavy tribute was paid to preserve the unity of the country and the republican system and install security, peace and reconciliation."

Therefore, he added that "the Algerian people, mainly coming generations, must understand that freedom, stability, progress and democracy enjoyed by the country are the result of great sacrifices and great efforts need to be measured at fair value so that these considerable achievements are maintained with pride and reinforced by the continued construction and reform to achieve progress so that to have a respectable place among nations."

"We live a milestone in the history of the country, which requires joint efforts for the development process of renewal and fifty years after the recovery of national sovereignty," the President said.

"Algeria has positively responded to the march of history by conducting a great war of liberation, by achieving global sustainable development and adopting a true democracy strengthened in recent years by an ambitious programme of socio-economic achievements and major policy reforms aimed primarily at strengthening the foundations of the rule of law in a cohesive society where individual and collective freedoms and human rights are rooted, " he said.
