The ministry said six people with presumed links to the 'Movement for the Unity and Jihad in West Africa' (MUJWA) were arrested in the operation, which took place in the Spanish enclave on the north coast of Morocco.

Security forces searched eight different homes and confirmed that among those arrested is the "first Spanish jihadist fighter who returned from the conflict in Mali after passing through the MUJWA training camps in West Africa."

Last March, Spain and Morocco carried out a successful joint operation against one of the most active jihadist recruitment cells active in Spain. They made seven arrests, three of which were made in Melilla.
