Police Arrest 22,542 Individuals for Violation of Health Emergency Measures

Rabat - Security operations carried out by the various services of the national police (DGSN) since the declaration of a state of health emergency to combat the pandemic of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), have led to the arrest of 22,542 individuals red-handed for violation of the emergency measures set by the public authorities.

The DGSN said Friday in a statement that the qualitative analysis of the statistical indicators shows that the majority of the recorded facts materialize in the refusal to comply and violation of the measures of the state of emergency, the non-application of the directives of the public authorities, assembly, disobedience, incitement to assembly and disobedience, non-compliance with restrictions on movement and moving without permission to leave home.

With regard to the geographical distribution of these acts, the services of the Casablanca prefecture of police arrested 3,611 individuals, those in Rabat 2,950, and those in Kenitra 2. 725, Oujda 2,269, Marrakech 2,122, Agadir 1,883, Beni Mellal 766, Fez 762, Meknes 476, Settat 471, Tetouan 470, Laayoune 313 and Tangier 280, the statement said.

The provincial security services of Salé nabbed 1,712 individuals, Beni Mellal 766, Ouarzazate 477, El Jadida 413 and Safi 162, while the regional security services of Errachidia arrested 392 people, Taza 186 and Al Hoceima 102, added the same source.

The DGSN assured, in this context, that its services continue to intensify control operations in all Moroccan cities and to coordinate their interventions with the various public authorities, with a view to ensuring the strict and correct application of the state of emergency in order to guarantee the health safety of all citizens.
