Over 2,900 People Arrested in Last 24 Hours for Violating State of Health Emergency (Police)

Rabat - The security operations conducted to impose the state of health emergency decreed to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have led to the arrest, in the last 24 hours, of 2,940 people, including 1,692 have been placed in police custody to complete preliminary investigations ordered by the competent public prosecutors, while the others have been subjected to investigation and identity verification procedures, said Sunday the national police (DGSN).

In a statement, the DGSN said that since the declaration of the state of health emergency by the public authorities, a total of 47,143 people have been arrested in all the Kingdom's cities, 25,480 of whom were brought before the competent public prosecutor's offices following the police custody procedure.

These arrests were carried out in Casablanca (6,566), Rabat (6,296), Kenitra (5,084), Oujda (4,308), Marrakech (4,197), Agadir (3,408), Salé (2,995), Meknes (2,404), Beni Mellal (1,836), Fez (1,492), Tetouan (1,576), El Jadida (1,266), Tangier (1,181), Settat (1,146), Ouarzazate (954), Laayoune (775), Errachidia (596), Safi (442), Taza (435) and Al Hoceima (186).

Security services will continue to reinforce control operations in all the Moroccan cities and coordinate their interventions with the various public authorities with a view to ensuring the strict implementation of the health emergency rules, the source pointed out.
