Libreville - Gabon expresses its strong and sincere support for the Moroccanity of the Sahara through the opening of a Consulate General in the city of Laayoune, said Monday Gabonese daily newspaper “L’Union”. Following the inauguration of this diplomatic representation last Friday by Gabonese Minister for Foreign Affairs, Alain-Claude Bilie-By-Nze, and the Moroccan minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita , Gabon "provides its strong and sincere support to the Moroccanity of the Sahara and to the autonomy proposal presented by Rabat", the paper pointed out.

"This inauguration testifies to the excellent relations that Gabon and the Kingdom of Morocco have enjoyed for a long time in several fields, as shown by the signing of several bilateral conventions and agreements", it said, while highlighting the convergence of views and regular contacts between “Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba, and his brother and friend HM King Mohammed VI on topics of common interest, including their willingness to fight against any form of violence, particularly terrorism." The Consulate General of Gabon is the third diplomatic mission to open its doors in the Moroccan city of Laayoune after the Honorary Consulate General of Côte d'Ivoire and the Consulate General of the Union of the Comoros, the paper said, stressing that the Consulate General of Gabon in Laayoune will assist and help Gabonese nationals living in the Kingdom of Morocco.
