Nouakchott: FM Stresses Importance of Moroccan-Mauritanian Agreement of Fraternity and Good Neighborliness
Nouakchott - Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stressed, Wednesday in Nouakchott, the importance of the agreement of fraternity and good neighborliness, signed between Morocco and Mauritania in 1970.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of a visit to the consular services of the Moroccan embassy in Nouakchott, together with his Mauritanian counterpart, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Bourita said that this agreement, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is more important than ever.
He added that 2020 will be a special year for Morocco and Mauritania as they commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of this agreement, noting that it is in the spirit of this agreement that relations between the two countries will be revitalized in accordance with the directives of the heads of State of the two countries, HM King Mohammed VI and president Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
Bourita, who was received during his visit to Mauritania by the Mauritanian president, described as "very good" and "strong" bilateral relations, noting that the exceptional nature of these ties will be enhanced in accordance with the will of the leaders of the two countries.
He stressed that Moroccan-Mauritanian relations are at their highest level, which is reflected in the exchange of visits and permanent contacts, noting that since the year 2018, some 33 sectoral visits have been carried out, testifying to the positive dynamics in these links.
The minister deemed "normal" the solidity of these relations, which draw their strength in particular from the firm will of HM the King and the Mauritanian president to develop them further, as well as from the strong ties between the two peoples.
Bourita also said he is "satisfied" with the fluidity of the procedures for issuing visas to Mauritanian citizens, considering that the visa should not constitute a barrier between two peoples.
For his part, the Mauritanian minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, praised the development of bilateral relations, which is reflected in the number of exchanged visits.
He added, in a similar statement, that the two countries are working to improve procedures for issuing visas to businessmen.
In this regard, he said that businessmen will benefit from long-term visas to encourage investment.
