New round of Morocco EU negotiations for a new fisheries agreement

Experts from Morocco and the European Union will meet from 30 January to 1 February at the headquarters of the European Commission for a fourth round of negotiations for the conclusion of a new partnership agreement in the fisheries sector, in Brussels.

On this occasion, the Moroccan negotiators will discuss with their European counterparts fishing opportunities for fish categories as well as financial compensation.They will  insist on the need to reach an agreement which is "fair and balanced in terms of extraction, benefits and financial compensation," says the same source.
 
In previous rounds of negotiations, the Moroccan and European experts agreed on the fact that the new partnership agreement in the fisheries sector is essential to ensure the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fishery resources and national.
 
They also agreed on the importance of taking into account the national interests of Morocco and professionals of the sector and ensure that the new agreement contributes significantly to the development and modernisation of the sector the Moroccan fishing.
 
Moroccan and European negotiators also agreed to share the remaining categories of  underused seafood.
 
In addition to the Head of Mission of Morocco to the EU, Ambassador Menouar Alem, the delegation of Moroccan negotiators includes experts from the Department of Fisheries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
 
The first round of negotiations between Morocco and the EU was held in Rabat in November 2012 after a series of exploratory meetings have helped trace the contours of this new agreement.
