Chaired by the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon and the President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, the Advisory Board of this initiative is composed of eminent international personalities from the worlds of business, finance, governmental and civil society.

The composition and the Advisory Council of the initiative "Sustainable Energy for All - SE4All" have been announced by Ban Ki-moon and Jim Yong Kim on the occasion of the holding of the inaugural meeting of the Council, on Friday at the headquarters of the World Bank in Washington.

In an interview with MAP on this occasion Bakkoury stressed that his appointment in this Advisory Council is an opportunity to consolidate and strengthen the influence of the vision and strategy of Moroccan renewable energy globally .

He noted that this is an initiative in which Morocco has recognized naturally, given its strategy of developing environmentally friendly and its strong ambition for the deployment of renewable energy.

Bakkoury felt that his appointment to the Advisory Council of SE4All initiative in his capacity as CEO of Masen, reflects the recognition of the international community's engagement in Morocco for the promotion of renewable energies. Indeed, he adds, the Kingdom did not merely announce a vision, it was able to demonstrate, once again, the ability to deploy personnel and major projects, particularly with regard to solar energy.

He wanted to say, moreover, that the peculiarity of this global initiative is that it is based on a holistic approach, both in terms of energy issues as development and sustainability, noting that this first meeting was explicitly raised the issue of "Sustainable Energy-Economy", as it can be an early solution and an answer to this "failure" of the current international economic model.

"Through renewable energy, and it is thus possible way for those who come to show and highlight the determination we need to take advantage of this approach to create a truly integrated economic sector can not only meet the requirements of energy but also to provide real opportunities for socio-economic development ", stressed Mr. Bakkoury.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said at the inaugural meeting that sustainable energy is "the golden thread that connects economic growth, social equity, climate stability and safety the environment, "saying that the Advisory Council of SE4All initiative has the skills and experience level needed to" help us achieve our goal of allowing everyone to have access to sustainable energy 2030 ".

For his part, the President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, regretted that more than 1.2 billion people still do not have electricity, and 2.8 billion use solid fuels for cooking and heating.

"This has fatal consequences: the toxic fumes from these fuels kill about four million people a year," he further lamented, noting that universal electricity and safe cooking fuels access remains a " essence "of poverty eradication.

"We must meet this challenge in a sustainable manner that also takes account of the fight against climate change," he said.

The initiative "Sustainable Energy for All - SE4All" is a partnership of multiple stakeholders involving governments, the private sector and civil society.

Launched by the Secretary General of the UN in 2011, the initiative aims to achieve three interrelated goals for 2030, namely to ensure universal access to modern energy services, doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy supply and double the global rate of energy efficiency.

The Advisory Board will propose strategic directions and will be ambassadors for the initiative "Sustainable Energy for All - SE4All" in the world.

They will continue at a high level advocacy to promote action on energy and mobilize stakeholders in support of the initiative. Other members of the Advisory Council shall be appointed after further consultation with stakeholders.

According to the World Bank, this initiative has demonstrated its ability to mobilize commitments of billions of dollars to induce large-scale investments and operate a network of knowledge sharing booming.

Since its launch, more than 70 countries joined the initiative, which has support around the world, especially from the African Energy Ministers, members of the Ministerial Conference on Clean Energy, European Union and island developing States.

The partnership also mobilizes companies, investors and civil society in favor of "high impact initiatives" such as off-grid lighting, energy efficiency improvements, energy and health of women and the supply of renewable energy.
