During a plenary debate at the UNHRC, the International Committee for the Respect of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights (CIRAC) and the U.S. Agency for International Development asked the council to uncover the truth about abuse committed by the separatists.

The meeting was marked by a testimony of a former prisoner in the camps of Tindouf Abdallah Lamani who spoke about the tragedy he lived for 20 years since his abduction in 1980.

Spanish lawyer Agustin Fernandez de la Cruz pleaded the case of Khadijatou Mohmud Mohamed, who was raped by a high-ranking polisario officer called Brahim Ghali who is the separatists' representative in Algiers.

The victim, born in the camps of Tindouf, says that she was sexually harassed and abused while she was in Algiers to get her visa for Spain.
