Morocco was Firm Towards Provocative Manoeuvres by Polisario with Algeria's Complicity, Official
Rabat - Morocco showed firmness towards the provocative and desperate manoeuvrers by the polisario's separatists with the support and complicity of Algeria, said, Friday in Rabat, minister delegate for relations with the parliament and civil society, government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi.
In a press briefing after the weekly cabinet meeting, El Khalfi said that the latest UNSC resolution was a huge setback for the polisario, recalling that the UN body had affirmed that moving administrative units to Bir Lahlou could threaten and undermine stability, while calling to stop it and urging the polisario to withdraw immediately from the Guergarate region.
This reaction by the UNSC was for Morocco a clear sign that the polisario's separatists were breaking international law, he said, noting that it was a violation of ceasefire and a blatant breach of UNSC resolutions.
Morocco sent an official correspondence to the Council president and members, the UNSG and the UNSG personal envoy concerning these violations, he noted, underlining that these manoeuvrers are desperate attempts to react to a clear UN resolution that deems acts by the separatist front contrary to international law.
How can we understand that there is a call to revive the political process to achieve a realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara while manoeuvrers are underway with the aim of torpedoing the process of a political settlement? he wondered. These acts are done with the complicity and blessing of a neighbouring country to which we are linked by the Arab Maghreb Union agreement and which supports an armed movement targeting the territorial integrity of a signatory country, said the minister, stressing that this will only undermine international law and stability.
