Morocco was represented at the ceremony held in Cape-Town by the Chargé d'affaires of the Moroccan embassy in Pretoria, Thami El Glaoui. Jointly organized by the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Parliament, the ceremony was an opportunity to recall the progress made by the South African government since 1994, as well as the anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Mandela, who died recently at the age of 95.

" The Late Mandela never disassociated his individual destiny from that of his people and the liberation movement, the African National Congress," said on the occasion, Foreign Minister of South Africa, Maite Nkoana -Mashabane. On the sidelines of the ceremony, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of Morocco in Pretoria recalled in a statement to South African television channel "Africa News Network 7" (ANN7), Morocco's support during the struggle against the racist apartheid regime in South Africa.

He said that the first black president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela hailed in his historic speech in 1994, the tireless support of the Kingdom of Morocco for the anti- apartheid activists.

The Moroccan diplomat also recalled that King Mohammed VI paid tribute in his message of condolence to President Jacob Zuma, following the death of Nelson Mandela, for "the great moral qualities and political courage of this champion of peace, which history will remember as a fighter against racism and discrimination and for a new South Africa.''
