Mexico City - Morocco took part at the 44th summit of the Central American Integration System (SICA) which was held in the Belizean city of Placencia on December 16-18.

Morocco was represented by its Ambassador to Mexico Abderrahman Leibek in the summit that was dedicated to issues relating to economic and financial integration, customs union, the fight against drug-trafficking, climate change and sustainable development. Morocco's Embassy in Mexico said in a statement.
On the sidelines of the event, the Moroccan Ambassador held talks with Speaker of the central American Parliament Armando Bardales Paz on the means to reinforce cooperation.
Morocco's application as an extra regional observer in SICA was approved last April by the organization's council of ministers of foreign affairs in Beliz.
The Central American Integration System, founded in 1991, is the institutional framework of Regional Integration in Central America. It brings together Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
