Madrid - Spain welcomed on Sunday Morocco's decisions on military justice and swift handling of complaints and proposals of the Moroccan national human rights council (CNDH) as a "positive headway on the path of promoting human rights respect and freedoms in Morocco".

The reforms are "a positive headway of the path of promoting human rights respect and freedoms in Morocco", said the Spanish ministry of foreign affairs and cooperation.

The Spanish government welcomes these measures which seek to harmonize Moroccan laws with the 2011 constitution and with international standards of human rights, the ministry said in a release.

The ministers' council chaired on Friday by HM King Mohammed VI approved a draft bill providing for the exclusion of civilians from the competence of military courts regardless of their crimes.

On Thursdaym the cabinet meeting, chaired by head of government Abdelilah Benkirane, decided to interact promptly with proposals and complaints filed the national council for human rights (CNDH) and its regional delegations nationwide, mainly in the Moroccan southern provinces.

The government also decided to establish permanent liaison points and appoint interlocutors within the ministries concerned by these complaints, and set a three-month deadline to handle them.
