Morocco's Unions Claim General Strike in Public Services 'Successful'
Rabat - The four main Moroccan unions opposed to the government say that Thursday's general strike in the public service and local governments has been a success.

The participation rate to this strike varied between 75 pc and 80 pc in the ministries and 93 pc in local governments, said the Moroccan Labour Union (UMT), the Democratic Labour Confederation (CDT), the General Union of Morocco's Workers (UGTM) and the Democratic Labour Federation (FDT).

This rate reached 100 pc in several local authorities in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tetouan, Tangier and other cities, these unions pointed out .

The four unions said the "success of this strike reflects the degree of social frustration in the various sectors of the public service, because of the procrastination of the government to meet the legitimate and just demands, notably the reactionary project related to the pension scheme".
