Rabat - The National Foundation of Museums of Morocco (FNM) and the National Museum of Oman signed, Monday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at consolidating and developing their cooperation in the field of culture and museums on the basis of respect for the principle of mutual interests.

Signed by president of the FNM, Mehdi Qotbi, and director general of the National Museum of Oman, Jamal Ibn Hassan Al Moussaoui, the Memorandum provides for the upholding of the principles of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the development of cultural and museum events of common interest.

The text also aims to strengthen cooperation relations between the two institutions, through the exchange of expertise, the long-term development of museums, the provision of consultancy services, the consolidation of social cooperation and mutual understanding of the two cultures.

Cooperation between the two institutions covers mutual artistic support for the development of museum activities, the professional training of staff at the respective headquarters of the two parties, the development of appropriate mechanisms for visitor services, educational programs, preventive storage and preservation, as well as the promotion of the cultural and civilizational dimensions of both countries.

In a statement to MAP after the signing ceremony, Qotbi said the Memorandum is part of the FNM's strategy to diversify its partnerships to include, in addition to Western countries, Arab States, recalling that the Foundation has inked cooperation agreements with various institutions around the world, including the Louvre, the Reina Sofia Museum and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.

Qotbi stressed that thanks to HM the King's support for culture and museums, Morocco now has several museums across the country, noting that the Kingdom has become a role model in Africa and for many countries, notably with the recent opening in Rabat of the National Museum of photography.

For his part, Al Moussaoui noted that the MoU signed with the FNM is "a first on the Omani side with a sister country in Africa".

The text also provides for the hosting of the respective cultural and artistic activities of both parties, including seminars and conferences in addition to the encouragement of historical and scientific research by professionals in the field of museums.
