Members of the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women and Youth Affairs Committee chose Taoussi of the Authenticity and Modernity Party to head the body tasked with preparing a draft law on combating violence against women, the Arab Parliament announced in a statement on Wednesday.
On this occasion, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Ben Abderrahman Al-Asoumi, congratulated Taoussi for the confidence vested in her by the members of the committee, while expressing confidence in her competence to properly carry out the tasks entrusted to her, according to the statement.
The choice of the Moroccan MP was made on the sidelines of the second session of the Arab Parliament which discussed the implementation of the role of Arab diplomacy in defending the interests of Arab peoples, the evolution of the current situation on the Arab scene and the strengthening of the role of the Arab Parliament in defending Arab causes.
It also discussed the procedures for establishing a joint committee to combat terrorism, ways to strengthen the role of the Arab Parliament in dealing with this phenomenon and coordinating Arab parliamentary efforts in combating terrorism and extremism.
Morocco was represented at this meeting by MP Abdellatif Ben Yaacoub (Justice and Development Group) and Fatima Taoussi.
