Morocco reaffirms commitment to goals of global anti-drug policy, ambassador

Vienna - Morocco has reaffirmed its commitment to the goals and principles of the global anti-drug policy set out in the "Political Declaration" and its action plan on international cooperation towards an integrated and balanced strategy to fight against drugs worldwide, adopted in 2009, said, on Friday, Morocco's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Ali El Mhamdi.

Speaking at the High Level Segment of the 57th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), El Mhamdi, who leads the Moroccan delegation in the event, said this policy is still current news and the international community must provide for it the necessary political and material support to enable it achieve the desired results in the service of human dignity.

The Moroccan delegation deemed that this half-way review of the 2009 Political Declaration is of paramount importance as it comes at a crucial moment in the fight against the drug phenomenon that has witnessed in recent years substantial mutations including the emergence of a new generation of traffickers, new psychoactive substances and new consumption modes that have serious impact on public health and human development, he said.
