Morocco is working on the final steps to finalise the plan that will be geared towards safeguarding achievements and addressing an array of dysfunctions, Benkirane told the participants at the 7th World Water Forum which is running until April 17th in Daegu under the theme: " Water for the Future".

The plan will identify the national priorities and the action programmes to be taken in order to ensure the Kingdom's water security by 2030, said Benkirane.

The national water plan is also aimed at meeting the challenges relating to water and development, he added.

The plan is based on several pillars namely improving supply through small dams and catchment lakes, using waterfalls, desalinating sea water and sewage treatment, the head of the government explained.

Under the same plan, special attention will be giving to the protection of water sources and the protection of the environment, said Benkirane.

It was also an occasion for Benkirane to recall the 1st edition of the World Water Forum in Marrakech in 1997, stressing that "further cooperation and solidarity" is needed to address the challenges pertaining to water.

Morocco has always attached a particular importance to water issues, said Benkirane, recalling that HM Late King Hassan II laid the bases for a wise national water policy that enabled Morocco to meet several challenges relating to water shortage especially during the periods of draught.
