Morocco, leader in human rights in Africa and MENA
Buenos Aires - Morocco is a leading country in the field of human rights in Africa and the MENA region on the back of reforms undertaken for over a decade, said Argentinian political pundit Adalberto Carlos Agozino.

The reforms undertaken by Morocco for over a decade to promote human rights have enabled it to become a leader in this field in Africa and the Middle East, wrote Carlos Agozino in an article entitled "Human rights, a bridge between Morocco and Latin America", posted Thursday on the website of the news agency Notilamar. Since the enthronement of HM King Mohammed VI in 1999, the Kingdom has undertaken significant reforms to strengthen human rights, added the Argentinian academic, citing in this regard the adoption of a new family law, the setting up of the Equity and Reconciliation Committee and the national Council for Human rights (CNDH) and the adoption in 2011 by a popular referendum for a new constitution which enshrines in its preamble the Kingdom's attachment to human rights as universally recognized.

The progress made by Morocco in the protection of human rights enabled it to be selected in 2013 by participants in the first Global Forum on Human Rights to host the second edition of this international event, slated in Marrakech on November 27-30, he added.
