Morocco- is the pilot Benkirane onboard the plane?

Vendredi 10 Août 2012

Doubt and unease. The feeling that has taken hold, for several weeks now, is raised by the political opposition. After 100 days of the Benkirane government the grace period that traditionally follows, concern has finally settled in on all floors of the opposition parties.
Morocco- is the pilot Benkirane onboard the plane?
Amongst the ranks of the majority, the cries and whispers on the inability of the government leader and his troops to drive reform and revitalise the economy are daily more and more audible. A few days ago, the leader of the PPS and Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and Urban Policy  the claws came out and he  roundly criticized the slowness of the action of his government.

"Since its installation at the helm of power, let's face it, all the measures announced by the Executive briskly were reduced to announcements for effect. Nothing more. In eight months of government, there has been no previously concerted action and even less well studied at the base. The governance of the  Benkirane government has the annoying tendency to be criticise media outlets as untimely fire lighters.

A member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces exclaims; "There was a decision to proceed to higher fuel prices. But beware, the government had no choice. It  is a single measure responding to the circumstances. As for the reform of the compensation fund, there is time for the promise made on television by the head of government and that needy families will receive cheques each month-end, "quipped the former  USFP Minister.

The government sails in sight? The question is insistent as the ministerial team in power gives the impression says an opposition official , "not  to be in control  of any file" and "governing in shambles." Some opposition MPs are asking if the pilot Abdelilah Benkirane is on the plane. The latest statements by PJD Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research have sown much more than disorder. And not just among politicians.

Lahcen Daoudi has indeed called for an end to the principle of free higher education, particularly in medical schools and engineering schools, for affluent families. From a distance, the proposal is attractive and smells  of generous socialism. "Except that the reality is different. I am appalled to see that the Minister of Higher Education that ignores the overwhelming majority of students and faculties of these schools come from poor families and the affluent families who say their children which are  enrolled are only a small category. How  can a government official make such a proposal,  on TV during the evening TV news for the defence and without having studied in advance, a statistical study that would allow him to understand the situation precisely and which students come from rich or poor families?

Not to mention that Daoudi and the government want to associate it with institutions that are essential frameworks, that is to say the economy with engineering schools and health in terms of faculties of Medicine, "growls the left wing academic..

 The remedial Nizar Baraka F'tour

On Thursday, deputies members of the Finance Committee broke into a cold sweat. The presentation by Nizar Baraka, Minister of Economy and Istiqlal finance gives much cause for concern. Growth and economic recovery are far from the rendezvous and despite a remedial f'tour organized this weekend by the treasurer of the kingdom for a part of the press, the picture is bleak. Facing the press and despite wanting to be reassuring  Nizar Baraka spoke well of reserves covering just four months of imports of goods and services. He clearly recalled that Morocco's oil bill has reached 50 billion dirhams and he also hammered tourism receipts and remittances from Moroccans living abroad  which now cover only 46% of our currency. "We are not in a logic of structural adjustment plan, but we do not exclude a crisis situation," he finally admitted to reporters invited to a breaking of the fast inspired by auto suggestion.

On the opposition benches, anxiety, peaked and many fear the start of a deep economic crisis. "There is no economic dynamics, the situation deteriorates. The indicators are red. It has been nearly eight months that this government is in place. Crisis has not suddenly fallen on its head! What steps have been taken to mitigate the effects of the crisis, revive the economy, restore investor confidence and economic operators?

Beyond borrowing on international markets, what is its strategy of economic funding? Unfortunately, the Executive is unable to give us clear convincing answers " a member of the National Rally of Independents says bitterly.

From the benches of the opposition, the Authenticity and Modernity Party, speaking through its secretary general, is already threatening the Benkirane government with a censure motion. Should we take this threat seriously and should the head of government be concerned? "It's much too early for a motion of censure. No way to throw a sword in the water, "says a member of the USFP policy before predicting a" real reason triggering a process of a motion of censure may well arise because of the  the way things are going " .
