Morocco is on track to achieve the goal of welcoming 20 million tourists a year
Morocco has taken a further step towards achieving this goal with the announcement of several projects designed to drive up the number of foreign visitors and stimulate private investment opportunities, particularly in coastal regions borders , says the firm in an analysis received at the MAP.

Quoting Ali Ghannam, president of the National Federation of Tourism (FNT), OBG indicates that the Vision 2020, launched with the mission to double the number of tourists, aims to increase this number to 9.35 million in 2011 to 20 million 2020, and thus make Morocco one of the top 20 tourist destinations in the world.

The implementation of this Vision has gained new momentum by focusing on private sector participation, the source added, noting that the Vision 2020 examines all the factors that impact on tourism development, including financing , infrastructure, aviation and taxes.

If Vision 2020 is largely financed by the Moroccan Tourism Development Fund (FMDT), the banking sector also contributes to the project to the tune of 1.3 million, says the think-tank again, noting that the program s 'involves a partnership with the private sector to advance efforts to improve the sector while emphasizing the development of sustainable tourism.

The success of Vision 2020 will result in an increase in the contribution of tourism to GDP of 60 billion Moroccan dirhams currently 140 billion in 2020, OBG adds, noting that in order to stimulate the tourism industry, Morocco has turned to new partners outside its borders.

The source cited in this context, a proposed new public-private collaboration between Spain and Morocco, called Nexotour, to develop a new space tourism between eastern Andalusia and Morocco, focusing in particular on the cities of Granada, Mallaga and Almera was in Spain and the regions of Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate, Oujda-Angad and Nador in Morocco.

The source concludes that if the objective of draining 20 million visitors seems ambitious economic difficulties in Europe, Morocco has all the turnkey to achieve this through strong support from government, private sector and even new international partners.
