Morocco improves in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index

Rabat - Morocco improved from to the 80th place in the 2014 Corruption Perception Index, up from a ranking of 91 out of 177 last year.

This ranking mirrors the efforts undertaken by Morocco to fight corruption, Communication Minister and Spokesperson for the government Mustapha El Khalfi told the press.

This improvement goes in line with the progress achieved in terms of the indicators relating to the business climate and competition, he said, adding that the simplification of administrative measures and the use of modern technologies also helped reduce corruption.

The Minister shed light on a number of measures taken by the government to curb corruption including the automatic examination by the judiciary of cases submitted by the court of auditors.

In this regards, he recalled that the Court of Auditors brought 21 cases before justice in 2014, adding that corruption cases examined by justice in 2013 rose to 8,597.

El khalfi also said that a law concerning the high authority for the prevention of corruption was submitted to the Parliament's approval, adding that the government is considering measures to further reinforce competition and transparency notably in the field of public finances.
