Since 2007, "Tanger Med", Tangier's Mediterranean port, has emerged to rival the greatest ports of the region, and has made of the north of Morocco a strategic crossroads of maritime exchanges, said the paper, adding that Tangier, thanks to the large-scale projects achieved, has become the second economic hub of the country, after Casablanca.

The article notes that approximately 100 million euros were spent in 2000s on road and railroad infrastructure, noting that Tangier will be linked to Casablanca by TGV, the first of its kind in Africa.

"Tangier has been a coveted spot since the enthronement of HM King Mohammed VI in the late 90s", Zoubir Chattou, a socio-anthropologist at the national agriculture school of Meknes, told the paper, stressing Morocco's strong political will to launch an economic dynamic in the north of the country.
