Morocco and four other countries launch call for a world without torture

Geneva - Morocco and four other countries launched, on Tuesday in Geneva, a call to all countries across the world for the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Torture.

This call was made at the UN's European headquarters, in the presence of minister delegate for foreign affairs Mbarka Bouaida and High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights, Navanethem Pillay.

The signatories of the "world initiative for the universal ratification of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment" are Chile, Denmark, Ghana, Indonesia and Morocco.

Speaking at a panel organized on this occasion, Bouaida noted that Morocco's contribution to the initiative "is a clear and strong signal of its firm commitment to the effective promotion and protection of human rights at national and international levels".
