Mercredi 5 Février 2020

Rabat - Technical negotiations between the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA) and the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) have resulted in the signing of the operational action plan that gives the green light to the official opening, for the first time, of the US market to Moroccan raspberry exports.

This agreement is the result of negotiations initiated between the ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests in Morocco and its US counterpart, ONSSA noted in a statement.

The US authorities also require that the fruit be packed in unit packets authorized by the ONSSA, added the same source, noting that they also require that all exports must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the Office, attesting that the fruit has actually been produced and packed in accordance with the requirements of the United States.

In addition, the number of establishments authorized by the competent services of the ONSSA, which operate in the sector of red fruits amounts to 68, said the statement, stressing that the opening of this new market will contribute to the increase of Moroccan exports of red fruits, a sector which has undergone continuous development in recent years under the Green Morocco Plan and the efforts of professionals in the sector.

Morocco exports more than 140,000 tons of red fruits per year to more than forty countries, including member countries of the European Union, said the same source.
