Morocco, Spain Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Judicial Cooperation
Rabat - Morocco and Spain signed, Monday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their judicial cooperation.
Signed by public prosecutor at the court of cassation, Mohamed Abdennabaoui, and Spanish attorney general, María José Segarra Crespo, this agreement is part of the strengthening of the partnership between the two institutions.
This Memorandum of Understanding, which aims to consolidate efforts to protect and strengthen freedoms and human rights, also provides for the exchange of experiences and expertise on subjects of common interest, including the fight against crime and the sharing of information on extradition, Abdennabaoui told MAP.
In this sense, he affirmed that the agreement aims to strengthen the powers of the members of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the two respective countries, in addition to sharing information on legislation and laws in force, as well as special measures to combat crime.
For her part, Segarra praised Morocco's experience in the judicial field, stressing that this agreement confirms the ties of cooperation and trust that have been consolidated over time between the two institutions.
The agreement also allows for the planning of annual meetings and joint activities with a view to achieving an institutional approach that will lead to a better understanding of the functions and characteristics of the two judicial systems, noted Segarra, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom, leading a delegation from her country, at the invitation of her Moroccan counterpart.
