Rabat - Morocco and Spain reiterated, here Monday, their determination to reinforce cooperation in the energy field.

Rabat and Madrid emphasize "the importance of cooperation in the energy sector" to reinforce the momentum underway between the two countries in various fields, Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism, José Manuel Soria, told the press following a meeting with the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and Environment, Abdelkader Amara.

To do so, the minister noted that the two sides "agreed to meet before the end of October" to define the various aspects of bilateral cooperation in energy.

In this respect, Soria noted that the implementation of the third underwater electrical interconnection between the electricity networks of Morocco and Spain will be among the major issues to be discussed during the meeting.

For his part, Amara said that the third electrical interconnection "is very important for both countries and a strong signal to move forward on energy".

This meeting was an opportunity to brief the Spanish Minister and the delegation accompanying him the national policy in the energy sector to increase the share of renewables in the energy mix of the Kingdom.

The minister also underlined the importance of the energy sector in the economy of the two countries, noting that Morocco and Spain, both dependent on the international market in energy, are expected to work together for a win-win strategic partnership.
