Morocco: PJD for maintaining the death penalty
Islamist PJD MPs have expressed their opposition to the initiative of setting up the network 'Parliamentarians against the death penalty', recently established by members of left and liberal right in the House of Representatives.

Commenting on the refusal to join this group of elected officials, which campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty in the kingdom, the high-profile Islamist MP Aftati Abdelaziz, said in a statement to the press that he opposes the abolition of the death penalty in the kingdom.

Aftati nevertheless tinged his remarks, saying he is a theoretical maintainer of  the death penalty, but not for its current application.

He also indicated that this issue requires a broader  and very thorough debate before making a decision.

The issue is being debated in Morocco, especially the abolitionists continue to argue their case, a contradiction of text, which deconstitutionnalises the criminal code article establishing the death penalty, since the charter of rights contained in the constitution of July, is a clear statement of the right to life for all.
