Mercredi 6 Février 2013

The 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held from 2- 7 February in Cairo, takes place in the context of the increasingly difficult situation for the Arab-Islamic world, greatly concerned by the conflicts and tensions prevalent in some countries of the region and the effects on global peace and security they demonstrate.
Morocco- OIC Summit: Morocco, fervent defender of just causes of the Arab-Islamic Ummah
Aware of the threats and challenges brought about by these hotbeds of tension, Morocco has continued to warn against the proliferation of violence in the regions concerned, which undermines the foundations of coexistence and international peace and activates within regional and international groupings a search of adequate solutions to these conflicts.

The consistent position of Morocco concerning current issues,  is based on a call for calm, dialogue and tolerance to transcend differences, and it  was reiterated in a manner that could not be more clear in the speech by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the participants to the 12th Islamic Summit.

Naturally, the Palestinian issue is at the centre of concern, given its place in the heart of  Muslims and Moroccans in particular. While noting the persistence of the Israeli occupation forces "in their intransigence and blatant violation of the principles and rules of international law," King Mohammed VI highlights in this message, Morocco's contribution to the settlement of this conflict that has lasted too long.

The UK has recently hosted a meeting to reconcile the Palestinian factions, which was sanctioned by the "Call of Rabat" which represented an important step towards the completion of the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, the Sovereign considers "the only worthwhile approach to meet the aggressive and unilateral measures taken by the Israeli government against the Palestinians. "

In the humanitarian and social dimension, the kingdom spares no effort to help the Palestinian people hard hit by the blockade imposed by the Israeli authorities and the deteriorating situation on the ground.

Whether using direct measures as evidenced by the installation of a Gaza hospital country following the recent Israeli attacks, or ongoing assistance in the form of socio-economic projects undertaken by the Bayt Mal Al Quds, the initiatives taken by Morocco under the high instructions of HM King, have greatly contributed to alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people and sustained its strength and fight to recover their legitimate rights.

Resolutely committed to the just Palestinian cause, Morocco, as stated by HM the King has decided to invest in the international arena to mobilise support to stop Israeli attacks, thwarting the plan to Judaise Al- Jerusalem and establish an independent and viable Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the Syrian track, which has been bogged down for two years, Morocco has taken the lead to build on the steps taken by the international community to end the drama lived daily by the Syrian people and to preserve national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

All eyes were riveted in mid-December, when Marrakech held the 4th meeting of the "Friends of the Syrian people", which brought together nearly 130 Western and Arab countries, international organizations and representatives of opposition to the regime of Bashar Al Assad.

In this meeting, the first since the announcement in November in Doha, the unification of the Syrian opposition, marked a major turning point in the struggle of the Syrian people for freedom and dignity, as it was crowned by recognition by the world powers, of the Syrian National Coalition (CNS) as the sole representative of the Syrian people.

With the show of solidarity with the people of Morocco Syria has found its finest expression in humanitarian initiatives decided by HM the King, including the deployment of a multidisciplinary hospital at Azzaatari camp in Jordan, in addition to humanitarian aid dispatched repeatedly to Jordan and Turkey in favour of Syrian refugees.

This reflects the importance that Morocco attaches to humanitarian aspect, given that it is the Syrian people who pay the heavy price of the sinking of the crisis which has, in addition to political support, the greatest need for humanitarian assistance to survive the atrocities of war whose results, in terms of dead, wounded and displaced persons continues to increase.
