Morocco, Key Ally of France in Unstable Region, Says French MP

Paris - Morocco is a key ally of France in an unstable and troubled region, French MP Luc Chatel said, hailing the resumption of judicial cooperation, which has improved the exchange of information between the relevant departments of the two countries.

"It was unimaginable in a very tense regional geopolitical context marked by tensions and real terrorist risks to work together with a suspension of judicial cooperation", he told MAP on the eve of the friendship and working visit that French President Francois Hollande will pay to Morocco (September 19-20) at the invitation of HM King Mohammed VI.

In this respect, he commended the efforts of the two leaders to turn the page on the diplomatic quarrel that raged for nearly a year between the two countries.

After hailing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the rapprochement between the two peoples, Luc Chatel, also president of the French-Moroccan friendship group in the National Assembly, stressed that the friendship and the exceptional relationship between France and Morocco should be put above all other considerations.
