I love the poster of the opening night last Wednesday in Rabat, the European Jazz Ensemble whose musicians are five different nationalities, in addition to the quintet Greek Kostas Theodorou enriched by the size of the virtuoso flamenco Hispanic-Moroccan Baazaoui Simo.
Morocco: Jazz at the Chellah:Euro - Moroccan symbol of brotherhood 13-17 June at 8pm.
Diversity and sharing, the main themes of this 17th edition promises a variety of styles that fit as usual in the inclinations of fraternity between the peoples of Europe and Morocco.

The European Jazz Ensemble in the first part of the opening night. Nearly 1800 people attended the opening of this musical event recorded in the cultural calendar since 1996 already.

Every night from 13 until 17 June, two bands from 16 different European countries will be featured at the Festival Jazz at Chellah. Organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Morocco in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Wilayat of Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaers and in collaboration with embassies ,cultural institutes of EU Member States and the Delegation of Wallonia-Brussels, the event is held this year under the banner of "cultural diversity".

Bringing people together through Morocco's European Jazz

"Jazz is a language that vehicle sharing, exchange and fraternity", noted during his speech Eneko Landaburu, Ambassador Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Morocco. "At present, culture is a powerful lever in the process of cooperation between Morocco and the European Union," he said.

Jazz is not limited to one style. For this year in the first part of the opening night, a big band consisting European musicians for 35 years of German, Polish, Czech and English got the ball rolling. The fans were able to discover the rhythm of the saxophone, flutes, trumpets, double bass and drums of the "European Jazz Ensemble." In the second part of the evening, the Mediterranean was honored among the Balkan influences of Greek Kostas Theodorou and Moroccan traditional sounds mixed with Hispanic culture with Simo Baazaoui.

The group of Greek musicians rocked the audience with their oud, trumpet and drums, before being joined by guitarist Moroccan melodies.

According to Jean Pierre Bissot, artistic director of the European Jazz au Chellah "Jazz is an original music of the 20th century a bridge between Western and African cultures, is allied to cultures around the world, from Brazil to the Balkans, to India in Portugal and also from Morocco. " The success achieved during the 16 previous editions reflects the opinion of the latter as "the relevance of choosing the jazz, deemed to be American to write a dialogue between Europe and Morocco."

The beauty of opening in the 17th edition of Jazz au Chellah bodes well for the rest of the festival. As the days followed one another on stage internationally recognized European groups such as Slang, the quartet of Alexi Tuomarila Francesco Bearzattti or quartet. New talent such as Moroccan or Yacir Rami already recognized artists such as Hamid Saeed Chraïbi or Kasri are also showing.
