Morocco Harvests 27 Medals in IAAF World Championships Since 1983

Rabat - Morocco has harvested 27 medals (10 gold, 11 silver, 6 bronze) in IAAF World Championships in Athletics since 1983.

Morocco was always on the podium, except in Stuttgart (1993), Berlin (2009), Daegu (2011) and Moscow (2013), while the 1999 edition in Seville was the most prolific with 5 medals: two gold medals (Hicham El Guerrouj in 1,500 m and Salah Hissou in 5000 m), two silver medals (Nezha Bidouane in 400 hurdles and Zahra Ouaaziz in 5000 m) and a bronze medal (Ali Ezzin in 3000 m steeplechase). During this edition, Morocco ranked 5th.

Legend Said Aouita won the first medal for Morocco in 1983 in Helsinki. it was a bronze medal.
Olympic champion Hicham El Guerrouj is the Moroccan athlete that has won more medals in IAAF World Championships. He harvested 6 medals, including 4 gold medals in 1,500 m and 2 silver medals in 1,500 m and 5,000 m.
