Morocco, EU sign agreement to set up program of 'Institutes of Training on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Jobs'

Rabat - Economy minister Mohamed Boussaid, minister delegate for national education and vocational training Khalid Berjaoui and EU Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Canete signed, on Monday in Rabat, an agreement to finance the program of "Institutes of Training on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Jobs" (IFMEREE).

Worth 284 million dirhams, of which over of 109 mln MAD is funded by Europe, this program seeks to build infrastructure that will host three vocational training institutes located in Oujda, Tangiers and Ouarzazate. It also lays provisions for offering technical equipment and assistance to elaborate programs, and train supervisors.

"Part of the implementation of the partnership agreement signed on May 31, 2011, under the chairmanship of HM King Mohammed VI, between the State and professionals in the sector of renewable energy and energy efficiency, these institutes are tasked with training operators, technicians and intermediary executives on jobs related to renewable energy and energy efficiency", said Bousaid in a speech on the occasion, adding that these institutes will enhance coherence between active donors involved in the energy sector, through coordination between the EU, the French Development agency (AFD) and German Cooperation (GIZ). 

Upon completion, the program will help create a network of training centers which are modern and flexible with a capacity of 1,000 interns yearly, and which will provide quality training in six branches (technician of windmill exploitation and maintenance, of solar thermal and photovoltaic equipment, of thermodynamic solar power, of energy efficiency and of biogas deposit).

This program is in support of the new Moroccan vocational training strategy by the year 2021 which is aimed at maximizing professional integration by improving the quality of training and enterprise competitiveness.
