Rabat - Morocco remains committed to cooperation with the military component of MINURSO, as part of the mandate entrusted to it, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, said here on Thursday.
Contacts between Morocco's Royal Armed Forces and MINURSO's military Command carry on and had not been disrupted, he added at a press conference following a meeting with leaders of political parties and unions.

Contacts are continuing on the ground between the Royal Armed Forces and MINURSO's military component to maintain cease-fire, the minister pointed out, adding that "Morocco has expressed on several occasions its willingness to provide the necessary support to enable MINURSO's military component fulfill its mandate in good conditions".

The minister said that contacts with the Secretary-General's special Representative Kim Bolduc continue, adding that Morocco remains, on that basis and in accordance with the decisions taken, open to constructive dialogue in a spirit of mutual respect.

"Such a dialogue should not ignore the reasons for the current situation and on the other hand, aim to rebuild trust and save the political process, which has been weakened by Ban Ki-moon's blenders," the minister stressed.

Morocco decided a significant reduction of the civilian component of MINURSO, the cancellation of the voluntary contribution granted by Morocco to the functioning of MINURSO and the review of the withdrawal terms of Moroccan troops engaged in peacekeeping operations, following the verbal blunders of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the Sahara issue.

"Our decisions are sovereign and irrevocable," Mezouar pointed out.
