Morocco Calls on UNHCR to Establish Procedures for Registration of Populations in Tindouf Camps

Mardi 6 Octobre 2015

Geneva - Morocco on Tuesday called on the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to establish the required procedures for the registration of the populations in Tindouf camps that "should stop from being the exception" in this field.
Speaking during the general debate with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on the occasion of the 66th session of the UNHCR Executive Committee, Ambassador Permanent Representative of the kingdom in Geneva, Mohamed Aujjar, stressed the need for the registration of the populations in the camps according to UNHCR's mandate and the resolutions of the Security Council.

In this regard, he cited the implementation of the 2218 resolution adopted by the Council in April, pending a political solution to this regional dispute that would allow the return of these people to their homeland, Morocco.

The ambassador welcomed "the commitment of the High Commissioner on the enlargement of the biometric registration in several countries hosting refugees to establish a universal standard biometric system for the registration and identification procedures that would assess and quantify their real needs in terms of humanitarian assistance".
