Rabat - A program for the integration of immigrants is being prepared to upgrade the legal arsenal and integrate foreigners who do not speak Arabic, said minister of Moroccans living abroad and migration affairs, Anis Birou.
Moroccan official says immigrants' integration program is underway
The first part of the program consists in upgrading legal texts with three draft laws on trafficking, asylum and immigration, Birou told Moroccan daily "L'Economiste", adding that the second part consists in vocational training and Arabic-teaching for foreigners who do not speak Arabic.

Recalling that Morocco's overhauled immigration policy will be based on a more comprehensive and humanitarian approach that puts humans at the center of its concerns, Birou added that Morocco is also planning to establish consultation mechanisms with the civil society as well as internal and external partnerships.

The official further pointed out that over 1,000 applications for legal stay documents were filed in Rabat only, knowing that 23 offices, manned by 3,000 staffers were opened nationwide.

Morocco opened early this month alien offices nationwide to start processing requests of undocumented immigrants, in accordance with instructions of HM King Mohammed VI for a more humane migration and asylum policy.

The interior ministry estimates that there is between 25,000 and 300,000 undocumented immigrants in Morocco.
