Moroccan-Spanish initiative for mediation in the Mediterranean meets in Slovenia

Lubiana (Slovenia) - The Moroccan-Spanish initiative for mediation in the Mediterranean is meeting in Brdo (30 km east of the Slovenian capital city of Lubiana) in the presence of Moroccan delegate minister for foreign affairs and cooperation M'barka Bouaida, Spanish foreign minister José Manuel Garcia-Margallo and Slovenian deputy-premier and foreign minister, Karl Victor Erjavec.

Top officials from the UNO and the European Union, secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean, Fathallah Sijilmassi, secretaries general of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation academics and representatives of the civil society are also expected in this meeting.

Slovenia, a Mediterranean country is hosting for the first time this seminar that is held pursuant to the Moroccan-Spanish initiative for "the promotion of mediation in the Mediterranean" launched in September 2012 on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The previous sessions were held in Madrid and Rabat, respectively in February 2013 and July 2013.

Slovenia, a former republic of disbanded Yugoslavia, obtained its independence in 1991, before joining the EU in 2004 and the Euro zone in 2007.
