"The new position of the Spanish government comes at a time when relations between the two countries have gone through a serious and acute crisis and that the terms of this clear message can be a positive and constructive basis to be implemented with a new roadmap," said Benhammou in reaction to the message sent to HM King Mohammed VI, by president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez.
"We are also in an evolution in the position," he said, noting that it is more perceptible as it considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as "the most serious, realistic and credible basis for resolving the dispute".
According to Benhammou, this message recognizes the importance of the issue of territorial integrity for Morocco and welcomes the serious and credible efforts of the Kingdom within the framework of the United Nations efforts to find a solution acceptable to the parties to this regional dispute.
This is a perceptible evolution in the terms of this message where the head of the Spanish government appeals to the history, geography and common interests of the two peoples, noted the president of the CMES.
"We are facing a message with strong and clear terms" that seeks to meet the expectations of Morocco, said Benhammou, calling to move to renewed relations between the two countries.
In the opinion of the president of the CMES, Spain announces through the voice of its president of the government its willingness to engage in a renewed relationship with Morocco based on trust, transparency, compliance with commitments and mutual respect.
The message did not forget to strongly emphasize the abstention of any unilateral action, he recalled, noting that the president of the Spanish government assures that his country will always keep its commitments and its word and will meet the common challenges in order to ensure the stability and territorial integrity of both countries.
Spain's new position on the Moroccan Sahara issue is a big step forward that should be transformed into concrete policy, said Friday president of the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies (CMES), Mohamed Benhammou.
