Mali army accused of 'summary executions'

Mali's army has carried out a "series of summary executions" as it fights to recapture the Islamist-controlled north The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH).FIDH said that summary executions took place in Sevare,Niono and Mpoti as well as many other areas.

There is a fear that the Malian army which is predominately black is taking revenge by killing Tuaregs and Arabs.
There are allegations of summary executions for possession of weapons or not having official ID, FIDH told the BBC.

The Malian army has denied the allegations of  executions according to  AP. The islamist fighters often wear civilian clothes, it is difficult to distinguish them from the civilian population. The French Defence minister Jean -Yves Le Drian said that it was for theMalian army officers to maintain discipline.

UNHCR reports thousands of refugees are fleeing the fighting.
