A cooperation agreement between the Malian authorities and the International Criminal Court (ICC) was signed on 13 February, several investigations were immediately conducted into northern Mali (Aguelhok crimes, the destruction of the mausoleums of Timbuktu, etc.),  according to Jeune Afrique.

The Court reserves the right to pursue parallel investigations into certain events during and after the coup of 22 March 2012, including the bloody fighting (April 30) between Green Berets supporting Captain Sanogo and the red berets, who supported then president Amadou Toumani Touré and  the arbitrary arrests and torture that ensued. At the last summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa, President Dioncounda Traoré quietly met the ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda. "We will respond positively to all requests arrest warrant the ICC could give us," says one of his advisers.
